Spotted a car at Appalachia and headed over to Caps Ridge where the parking lot was empty at 5:30 AM. Exo spikes were the traction choice of the day. We put them on about 1 mile in and left them on until a mile from the parking lot. Microspikes would have been overkill and likely more hazardous given the exposed rocks and minimal snow depth throughout the hike.
Dropped packs at thunderstorm junction and went out and back to adams. Valley way had much more snow than caps ridge so micros could have been used there but exo spikes worked fine for us.
Congrats to Alex Campbell on her Grid Finish!!! |
