Fun windy day in the mountains. We went up Blueberry Ledge, only hitting some snow and ice in the last mile to the summit. We didn't use spikes for this part, it was easy enough to get through without them. Any snow or ice on the ledge had melted from the sun by the time we reached it. We put our spikes on at the top of Whiteface - maybe not mandatory yet, as we saw a few groups without them, but they definitely helped us move along quicker. The three miles between Whiteface and Passaconaway had a decent dusting of snow and some ice patches. We took the spikes off after summiting Passaconaway, and we were fine without them on the way down. Careful with the leaves on Dicey's Mill Trail, especially during the last two miles. There were times when we were wading through leaves a foot deep that hid the rocks and roots. Even with the leaves though, definitely an easier way down than Blueberry Ledge Trail. This was a fun 12 mile loop! |
