Comments
Comments: This was my first time to Chocorua. The mileage up Champney Falls Trail came relatively easily. The first mile was so gentle. The second mile had a bit more incline and a few areas of leaves embedded in ice coating the trail. The third mile was more typical uphill rocks with some switchbacks. Then you get up near the summit and that is what this hike is all about. I feared that rocky scramble and it was a puzzle of huge rocky step ups this way and that way. But so much fun to put hands on rocks and make it up to that classic peak. It was a cold, dry day with blue skies. I brought spikes but did not wear them. There was minimal snow pellets here and there, as well as patches of ice. But the majority of the trail was dry and stable. There were some places where I went slower because of leaves but it wasn't a big concern. Saw less than 10 people on the summit and zero people while on Champney Falls Trail.
