Started up ammo at 6 AM. Started with Kahtoola EXO spikes from the car. Once you got above line, micro spikes or K10s would be the preferred traction trail was very icy as expected.
Took shelter under the hut and layered up. Wind was much higher than forecasted around 60 mile an hour versus 40. We continued with our exo spikes on and wore them from here all the way to the end.
Exos were the award winner today because you can travel on the icy spots which were large but sporadic and exposed rocks. Micro spikes would be ok but need to be taken on and off 100 times.
No water crossing issues anywhere.
Traveled on Crawford path over Eisenhower and Pierce then headed to Jackson and down Webster Jackson trail. Major ice dams on Webster Jackson. |
