Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: About 6 spaces at Bog Brook trailhead. The last mile or two of Carter notch road is a dirt road that has a few rough spots
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Wet/Slippery Rock, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: There are several on Bog Brook and Wildcat River trails that took some time to think about or go up/downstream to find a safe way. I had to use submerged rocks at nearly every one
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There must have been a micro burst that came through very recently because there were blowdowns everywhere! Most were easy enough to navigate around, but on Wildcat River trail on the steeper section approaching the hut there is a large one that obscured the trail completely. There is one really big one going up Wildcat ridge trail about .3 mile up that was very large and confusing to get around and then hook back onto the trail

Comments
Comments: I needed to wrap up my November grid today on the Cats, so I figured I could get some highlighting in and do some recon work for the upcoming ski season on this fun loop. From the parking lot Bog Brook is a nice warm-up to Wildcat River. The water crossings were barley manageable and definitely took some time to find a safe way across. There were many blowdowns to deal with on every trail for the rest of the day (see notes above) the snow started around 2500' and by the time I was up on the ridge it was about boot depth. This is where rock spikes came in handy going across until I made it to the summit of Wildcat D peak and down to the top of the ski lift. I've heard that pole cat trail going down the ski slopes is temporarily closed due to snowmaking equipment in the trail. I wanted to see what kind of condition the Wildcat Valley ski trail was in to hopefully ski it this winter. Coming down there are several blowdowns blocking the trail above the red mailbox that will make skiing it this winter very tricky. I would not recommend hiking this trail due to the fact that it is a ski trail and it's very wet most of the way down and my feet got soaked, but I'm glad to know what to expect out there this winter.
