Started very early to get a hike in before an afternoon meeting. The Sandwich Mountain Trail was solid with a lot of bare boot marks until the steep section heading up to Noon Peak. The steep section itself required snowshoes with crampons at least, and full crampons would have been even better.
Once on the ridge it was smooth going with the Jennings Peak Spur well broken out. Smart Brook Trail had some post holes (looked like a single hiker) but was not fully broken out and Algonquin Trail was not broken at all. The summit was packed and comfortable with no wind so I stayed and ate my sandwich on top of Sandwich (hahaha!)
I took Drake's Brook Trail down and it was also in good shape with less post holing. The track down low was narrow and frozen but I kept the snowshoes on get used to the added weight. Overall it was a perfect day for hiking with incredibly clear views on the summit. |
