Comments
Comments: From the Mt Kinsman trail parking lot to the first stream crossing above the sugar shack there is a thin layer of snow so rock spikes would be preferred if you don't want the wear-and-tear on your regular spikes. Or you can bareboot pretty easily... at least on the way up. Above the crossing there is plenty of snow for regular spikes but not really enough for snow shoes. Once you get to 0.5mi from the ridge there is enough snow to use snowshoes if you want although the trail is now well packed to north and fairly well packed to south so they are really optional until we get more snow (expected later this week). A little less than half the people were using snowshoes along the ridge and those that did not were not leaving divots. The only place snowshoes would have been preferred in my mind was from the false summit on South to the true summit but that is such a short section it's not worth swithcing from whatever you were already using.
