| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
There isn’t as much off pavement space as normal. The plow drivers probably weren’t hikers. |
| Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts, Snow/Ice - Small Patches |
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
| Water Crossing Notes: |
Super duper easy; a few steps, et voila - over. 2 inches deep at worst. |
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
Lots of recent blowdowns. Some you can drop onto all fours and crawl under like a bug. Others you can scoot around. Some are in between and you can park your butt on the tree trunk and flip your snowshoed feet up and over. |
| Dog-Related Notes: |
My dog loved it, except for her boat anchor human slowing her down. One other - he was also enjoying it. Note: both dogs were at least 50 pounds and tall enough to not get absorbed into the snow (pro tip: current trail conditions are not Dachsund friendly). |
| Bugs: |
Whew - none |

Thinking of the Tripyramids soon? I broke trail uphill in snowshoes for the last mile or so to North Tripyramid (via the Pine Bend Brook Trail) and then over to Middle Tripyramid. Uffda. A couple was not far behind me, fortunately also in snowshoes. So, grab them before the barebooters restore entropy to the trails. No signs of any recent trail usage at the junctions. The snow was not “compactable”, so trying to make time descending was challenging. But, hey - Type 2 fun! |
