Comments
Comments: Congratulations to Zachary for completing on Mt. Wolf the NH100 &NE100 highest in a this calendar year--that's 145 peaks!
We started out bare-booting straight up from the Kinsman Ridge Trail on rte 112. It was broken out with snowshoes and barebooters, when we got not quite to the top of Dilly cliff area we put on our snowshoes and so did the previous bare-booters. Snow was about 9 inches deep with lots in the trees and sometimes the trees were ice covered too. Route finding was a bit of challenge since the trial is practically not blazed and trees covered with snow and ice often blocked our way. Along with plenty of new blowdowns since I was last here in late October. The snowshoe tracks stopped at Blue South Peak, so it was breaking trial and route finding all the way to nearly the last mile of Reel Brook. Interestingly we saw foot prints in the snow East of the trail in the woods after Blue Ridge and then appearing again before Mt. Wolf?? where did this person come from and where did they go? We found Mt. Blue's summit was recognized, though we did hunt for jars we had found way back in winter of 2017. The brook crossings nearing the bottom of Reel Brook we rock hopped on snow covered rocks. From here the snow was much less and we took off our snowshoes. Lots of people and dogs walked and packed down the couple of inches of snow here into a frozen granular path. Temps didn't get above freezing today, no wind and little to no sun--yes perfect weather for a winter-like snowshoe. First snowshoe of the season sure makes you pay attention.
