Trails
Trails: Sawyer River Road, Signal Ridge Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, December 1, 2024
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: Small snowbank at entrance from plowing the main road. Seems one pass had been plowed through the parking lot, but where you actually park is not plowed. I have a SUV with crappy summer tires and I was able to get in and out without issue.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Low, easy to cross.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: Quite a few blowdowns. About 3 on the first couple miles of trail, before you begin ascending, chest high. A couple more on the ascent. Many are easy to get under without getting on the ground. The last one, about a mile from the summit, you have to crawl on the ground to get under. As more snow accumulates, you should be able to get over it.

Comments
Comments: Bare booted until I got to the ridge where there were waist-deep snow drifts, then snowshoes to summit and back down until about halfway down the road walk. Could have taken them off sooner though. Snow is relatively packed until the ridge then it's very soft and fluffy from there until the summit.

About a mile in, where the trail normally takes a sharp left to switchback, whoever initially broke trail continued straight instead for about a quarter mile, then it looks as though they realized they weren't on the trail and went up the hill to get back on the actual trail.
