Comments
Comments: Not a bad day to be out, although the clouds were low and there were no views to speak of. I used spikes from the campground to just past the Hi Cannon junction, then switched to snowshoes for the remainder of the hike. The snow is consolidated enough for spikes but I prefer having televators for steep pitches, plus it makes for a smoother trail. Above the Dodge cutoff there are a few recently washed out and refrozen patches and lots of uneven, crusty snow. Above the ladder there are a bunch of ice flows which were fortunately soft enough for my snowshoe traction to be adequate . The trail continues to be narrow, crusty and uneven up to the junction with Kinsman Ridge trail (fortunately I think my snow shoes widened the track and evened things out a bit) then it is well packed and smooth sailing from KRT to the summit. There were some snow flurries while I was hiking but no appreciable accumulation.
