| Parking/Access Road Notes: |
Plenty of parking though the parking lot was a sheet of ice when I arrived at 6:30 AM. |
|
| Surface Conditions: |
Wet Trail, Ice - Blue, Snow - Packed Powder/Loose Granular, Ice - Breakable Crust, Snow/Ice - Frozen Granular, Snow - Wet/Sticky |
|
| Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes, Light Traction |
|
| Water Crossing Notes: |
The first crossing on Falling Waters was a little challenging because it had frozen over but the ice was no longer stable. Hard to tell what had a rock under it and was safe to stand on. Other crossings had super low water and were pretty easy. |
|
| Trail Maintenance Notes: |
The sign on Lafayette which directs people down toward the hut/Old Bridle Path has fallen over and is on the ground. This seems pretty dangerous given that people sometimes miss that turn and get into trouble. |

| Lost and Found: |
There was a silver ice axe with duct tape on the handle by the first water fall about 0.8 miles up Falling Waters. I left it there. |

| Comments: |
Soft snow at the beginning due to the warm temperatures. Things were very packed down going up Falling Waters - only trouble I had was that I got a little confused and forgot you do three consecutive river crossings when passing the waterfalls. The ridge was very icy - several sections of flat solid ice along the trail. Most rocks had a layer of marbled ice. Going down Old Bridle Path the snow was softer and more drifty with occasional post holes. There are several stretches of dirt/rock/exposed trail and running water in the last mile. I used rock spikes the whole way. |
