Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: We cleared maybe 12-18 of the remaining blowdowns, mostly above the Mizpah Cutoff junction (which is our adopted section of Crawford Path). Crawford Path top-to-bottom is probably 90% blowdown free at this point. There are a few that will become awkward as we get more snow, but I think we got just about everything we could until Spring.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Only saw one today, and it was his birthday! He also made the call that he wasn’t having any of that cold-a$$ summit nonsense.

Comments
Comments: Primary reason for the trip today was to finish cleanup on our adopted section of Crawford Path. See notes above for details.

As far as the rest of the trail, definitely more shoulder season conditions that winter. Below Mizpah Cutoff, it’s quite bony. Trail is nowhere near its winter sidewalk shape. Above Mizpah Cutoff, the snow is more consistent, and it was a thin layer on top of hardpack snow/ice.

Snowshoes went for a ride the whole day. The only place where they have been useful was the last stretch in the Alpine Zone, but at that point, why bother for .2 miles? That being said, the wind started whipping up on the way down, and the powder on the trees was starting to fall on the trail. I doubt it will be enough to cover the trail to warrant snowshoes for any duration, but don’t be surprised to see some new drifts up high.
