Barebooted up to Pike’s Pee(a)k junction, then put on snowshoes as the trail was drifted over with roughly 6-8” of soft powder. Mix of dry ground in the hemlock glades to soft snow. Total mixed bag of conditions, could have easily just used spikes as well as the shoes were a bit of a pain on the ledgy areas and on the bare ground under the Hemlocks. Checked out the view point on Pike’s on the way back and was treated to a stellar view. I tried to find the Newfound viewpoint but gave up quickly as the trail was not broken out and blazes were non-existent. |
