Comments
Comments: After today, I would recommend snowshoes for the road walk. The quality of the snow is more like beach sand. It’s harder work to walk through it with just spikes. Snowshoes will save you some energy. At the start of Signal Ridge, I would switch to spikes for the first 2.5 miles. Once you start heading uphill, there will be some areas with exposed rocks. It will be easier to manage with spikes. However, I would switch back to snowshoes shortly after the incline starts and you notice more snow coverage on the trail.

A friend and I hiked out the entire way today with our snow shoes. The trail should be in very decent shape, but can still benefit from another day or two of going over it with snow shoes as much as possible.

The only area with blowdown issues is after you cross Signal Ridge and you dip back down into the woods and head up the summit cone. There are ways to go around them all, but they can be challenging with your snow shoes on. Have fun!
