Arrived at the parking lot around 7 AM. Lot was plowed and easy to access. Two other cars were in the parking lot upon arrival. Sawyer River Road has a nice snowshoe track going up. We found it much easier in snow shoes since the snow is still unconsolidated and not hard packed. At the fork only the right side was broken out, so went to the right. Water crossing was slightly tricky, but made it across hopping rocks in our snow shoes. Heading up to signal Ridge. There was a nice snowshoe track, but still slightly unconsolidated.
Signal Ridge was quite a disaster with very deep post holes in spruce traps. The last half mile to the summit was a disaster zone. Really tough going. Trail was not consolidated at all, a couple blow downs, and deep drifts.
We wore snowshoes the entire day and highly advise you do the same if you wanna make your life easier. |
