Only one blow down about a mile from the start. |

Marlie and Brewer did well. Had to keep them from running off the trail as the crust would break below them, dropping them onto hidden sticks and logs. |

The trail was a frozen sidewalk, conditions don't get much easier than this. Microspikes worked excellent although some may prefer crampons for the short icy spots. Lots of places to use a sled below Mt Surprise. We saw only a group of three, two of them had conquered their first 4k. They told us of a group of 9 that had come up Stony Brook Tr. I scoped out the steep section above the junction with the Kenduskeag Tr. It was filled in nicely with snow and ice. Kenduskeag Tr did not look like it has seen much traffic.
