The ammo lot wasn’t plowed @7a when we arrived, but we parked in the cog lot (also wasn’t plowed but it wasn’t on an incline so my Prius could make it) and the ammo lot was plowed by the time we were leaving around 230p |

Ammo had roughly 3-6 inches of powder that was somewhat packed down. We threw on spikes where it gets steep after the waterfall. Would have been nice for me to use snowshoes but impractical we thought because for the most part the snow was too shallow and we’d keep hitting rocks. I ended up switching to k10s so another in our group could use my spikes, which was both a blessing and a curse. Good for the really solid ice high up on ammo just before the hut but once we were up above tree line the rocks would twist my ankle. I’m not sure which would be the better call but everyone using spikes seemed to do fine. We hit some knee high snow above tree line but never seemed worth it to switch to snowshoes, for the most part it’s shallow snow with an icy crust on top and also bare rocks. |
