What a day above treeline! In and out of the clouds, a bit of undercast, and small gusts of wind. Started hiking right around 7:45. Snowshoes went on immediately at Jewell Link and stayed on until the summit of Adams. I was with one hiking buddy and my pup, and we encountered just one other hiker heading up Jewell. We took turns breaking trail, packing it down, and navigating towards Jefferson. Lots of unpacked powder and drifts made it slow going. Once on Jefferson we headed towards Adams where none of the trail was broken out on Gulfside. We took our time to find the cairns and follow the trail as best we could. Once in the col we ran into another hiker and were able to follow his tracks to the Adams summit. Snowshoes came off and spikes went on on Adams due to the rocky and icy surface. Quick hike down to the hut and up Madison. Headed down Valley Way and put headlamps on for the hike out. Valley Way was very well broken out and easy to follow. |
