The whole way is theoretically spikable, though we donned snowshoes (for the televators) to climb North and kept them on across to South. Switched to Hillsounds for the descent, which worked fine. I usually go to full crampons to descend South, but was glad that I made the right call to not carry them. South had zero ice, but pretty nicely packed powder from some folks butt sliding ahead of us. It was lightly snowing while we were on the ridge and the relatively low winds were wiping out the prints ahead of us…could require snowshoes if there is more snow and/or drifting. Once below the “waterfall” area that crosses the trail, the snow cover is really too low for snowshoes. |
