The trail passes over some interesting and rugged terrain. Vast numbers of boulders. Trail is somewhat rocky, probably moderated having the shallow packed snow cover. Views from the ledges overlooking Lake Solitude are very fine. I attempted to bag the main summit, but was stymied the last 100 yards by steep ski trails with zooming skiers. There didn't appear to be any alternate route for hikers and snowshoers. There may have been an alternate route, but daylight was short and didn't have time to spend hunting for it. I'd recommend skipping the main summit during ski season and spend more time enjoying the peace and quiet at Lake Solitude view ledge instead. |
