Comments
Comments: Needed the Tris for winter, and with today’s forecast these were the least likely to turn hubby and I into a kite on the summits. Pine Bend up to about .4 miles below Scar Ridge Trail was in great shape, and most folks used microspikes. It was a little boney in a few sections below the side hill, but after that snowshoes worked well for traction. Prior to Scar Ridge Trail junction and all the way to North Tri the drifts were 12-18 inches, so snowshoes worked well. Snow squalls started around noon, and by the time we made it back to North from Middle the trail was almost filled in. Pine Bend descent was sketchy with the new snow—-I switched to Hillsound Pro’s for better control, but still ended up on my derrière in a few places. Folks hiking this tomorrow may want snowshoes, as it snowed all the way back to the trailhead, and the wind was whipping pretty high along the ridge. Of note, Scar Ridge Trail or Sabbaday were broken out. 31 & 32 for Winter48!
