Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Dogs would do fine here (probably better than humans). Saw one dog that had booties on its paws - the owner said this was because the paws would sometimes ball up with snow like microspikes sometimes do.

Comments
Comments: Ice was the dominant theme of this hike. There was ice almost everywhere, but it wasn't all the same - some sections had granular pieces of ice that provided some traction, a few sections had very thin layers of ice on bare ground, other sections had ice hidden under an inch of snow, and there were a couple of areas with thick ice flows. I barebooted the entire hike, and I was fine, though I did need to be careful in a few spots. I did slip and fall on the ice twice, but was only bruised - if this scares you, or if you're less experienced with winter hiking, micro-spikes would definitely have helped in some spots. But there were still plenty of places where those spikes would've gone against rock or ground instead of ice. If we actually get the 6" of snow that's forecast for tonight, that will improve the conditions substantially.

I saw only two other groups of hikers - three women who were heading toward Round Pond as I was descending from it, and Doug and Jean who live nearby and were going toward Round Pond Trail to ultimately meet up with Overlook Trail. It was a very nice day with plenty of sunshine and it wasn't too cold.
