Well since I was on Carrigain last Sunday and Iso yesterday… I knew snowshoes needed to come especially with the new snow we have been having. I was hoping the tracks were like those last two peaks and everyone to have/wear there snowshoes. Not the case today. I barebooted to the first switchback as it is still a little boney with not too much snow. I then put the snowshoes on. I saw no benefit wearing spikes as it just made divets in the snow and seems like more work. I passed 22 other hikers, 1 dog and only 4 had on snowshoes and 1 had them on their pack. I also saw 2 without anything… backpacks… just long peacoats which was odd for this time of year tourists. A true winter wonderland out there though. 4 had sleds which they seem to have smoother out some of the mess up there but near the drifts where the pond spur is, was a solid mess that was ankle breaking due to all the post holes. Hopefully people can get it back to where it needs to be and maybe get a highway going again. |
