Snowshoes door to door, broke Hi-Cannon (caught 1 hiker ahead of me .5 mile up). Hi-Cannon has tight vegetation, so expect to be pushing through lots of snow covered leaners. Steeps coming down from Cannon towards Cannonballs on KRT have one sketchy no fall zone...not for the faint of heart. KRT to NE Cannonball had 6" of new snow, figured it would be a fun trip, but recent traffic had just done an out/back, so past that point the snow was knee to thigh deep (waist deep drifts in places) with lots of downed trees "hiding" the trail. GPS did a lot of work for route finding, but even with that I briefly lost the trail twice. Took a lot out of me and by the time I got to the KRT/Fishing Jimmy/Kinsman Pond junction I was wet, behind schedule, and pretty spent, so decided to save the Kinsmen for another day. FJ saw a lot of traffic today and was very packed, most people spiking, and down from the hut was essentially paved. |
