Comments
Comments: Beautiful day for the Belknap Range Traverse! Started up the Mt Major Trail (blue) at 7:30am, trails are packed and easy to follow, we only needed spikes. Trail over to Straightback Mt and the trails beyond over to the intersection of the Old Piper Trail and Round Pond-Piper Link Trail were easy to follow and had already been hiked. Snow was very fluffy due to the very cold temps, we only needed spikes because of the minimal depth of snow and exposed rocks/roots throughout the trails. Once on the White Trail up to Belknap, the trails were solidly packed down again, all the way over to Mt. Rowe. Descending the access road on Mt Rowe was very well packed down because of the authorized vehicles that maintain the radio tower up top. Gunstock was fun to see all lit up in the dark. We carried snowshoes but didn't need them, again due to the minimal depths of snow throughout the traverse. A lovely day to be out!
