Comments
Comments: The whole route is packed snow, except for the upper 1/2 mile of Valley Way (above Upper Bruin), which has about 6 inches of loose snow. We used microspikes on Valley Way, and switched to crampons above treeline (on Osgood Trail) for stability in the wind (actually we switched a little before that to have more traction on the upper part of Valley Way), but another group used microspikes the whole way. One could use snowshoes on the 1/2 mile mentioned above, but even with microspikes one would not make deep postholes. We carried snowshoes but did not use them. Above treeline it was a mix of packed snow and rocks.
