Twins and Galehead, dropped a car at Beaver Brook picnic area and parked at Seven Dwarfs to start. We didn’t know the trail conditions so we were pleasantly surprised today when we started, bare boots up the road to the trailhead, then spikes till mile 4, then snow shoes went on and stayed on. Trail is broken out but became softer. Once up on North Twin we noticed South Twin wasn’t broken out but thankfully there was only a few inches of new snow to South Twin, we went down towards Galehead hut and that section was not broken out and deeper snow, once at the hut we were happy to see Galehead and Gale River trail was broken out. Once back on gale river road we took off the snowshoes, we did miss the Beaver Brook xcountry ski trail so bushwhacked a tad till we got back on trail and made it to car. A lot of people out doing Galehead today and only a few were going up to South and snowshoes are the best traction choice. |
