| Comments: |
We wore snowshoes for the entire hike, mainly for the televators and to prevent back sliding in the very steep climb to the ridge top. Nine of the hikers we encountered were wearing snowshoes and one hiked in microspikes. You can currently hike this trail in micros and not posthole. The trail is in great shape with a well-compacted trench for 95% of the hike. Short sections above 4,000 ft had some wind blown, unconsolidated sections, but there were no postholes evident. While we were descending we met a group of two and a group of six hikers who were camping overnight on the summit! If you need Mt. Carrigain in winter the conditions are ideal. |
