Three of us wore spikes until about 3/4 the way up Hi-Cannon when we hit a super steep part and we wanted televators, and we kept them on until the summit tower. They would've been helpful earlier, but spikes were adequate. Stopped at the Cannon Mountain summit lodge for a cinnamon roll. Descended KRT with spikes and on our butts at times, there was a good base to support using spikes, no postholes, but enough loose snow to be a bit slippery. Some others wore snowshoes. We then stopped at the hut, and walked back across the lake down Lonesome Lake Trail, which is hard-pack snow as usual. |
