Comments
Comments: Parked in the Crawford lot which allows direct access to the Crawford Connector to the main Crwford Path trail. This trail was well traveled and well packed down. We used our spikes once the elevation began to get steeper. Very well sheltered from any wind. Lots of heavy snow pack on the trees, so watch out for snow bombs. We made it to the summit of Pierce, which was in the clear and mildy windy. No goggles needed. We decided to go on to Jackson as the weather was good. This is where conditions changed. We had a decent snow squall while sheltered for a snack break near Mizpah Hut. We then proceded to Jackson via the Webster Cliff trail. I had left my snowshoes in the car thinking it would be well travelled. It had been snowshoe packed well at some point, but the new snow and drifts made sections very difficult without snowshoes. There are a few sections with snow weighted trees requiring you to go around thru pretty deep snow. This trail gets very steep just below the summit as well, also tough without crampons or a mountaineering axe, but we managed with only our poles. Lesson learned, bring the snowshoes!!!! We made it to Jackson which was also clear but the westerly wind had increased requiring goggles. We then descended Webster Jackson to 302 and walked the road back to the lot. The loop was just under 9 miles at 8hrs 15 min.
