Left from basin parking lot and took the bushwhack up to liberty Springs Trail. The bushwhack is well used at the moment and very easy to find. Continued up liberty Springs on a very well packed trail conditions were packed snow. Most roots and rocks are completely covered with the exception of a few small stretches. All water crossings are easily negotiable, including the one major one which is completely bridged over. The last mile up to the junction with Franconia Ridge is 100% snow and a steady ramp all the way making for some very nice spiking. Making our way across the ridge was fantastic. Again well packed and firm under foot. Don't step off the trail as you will fall in. Great snowshoeing up there if that's what you prefer. There were no obstacles up to liberty. Beyond liberty and over to flume there were only minimal blow downs or hangers, and they were easily negotiated. The return back down was super quick. We were able to do standing glissades down liberty Springs Trail and off the ridge in about an hour!! Great day and beautiful views!! |
