| Comments: |
Not quite a bluebird day, but we had lots of blue sky and lower than expected winds - only windy (15-20 mph) at the Mt. Hight summit, and amazing views of the presidential from Hight. Well-established trail (but with some big patches of blue ice) from trailhead to the Carter Dome Trail interesection. Saw only five other hikers the whole day.
Used microspikes on Carter Dome Trail to Carter-Moriah Trail intersection. After that, switched to snowshoes, since the trail was broken out but not quite established. Steep but manageable (thanks to elevators) heading up Carter-Moriah Trail to Mt Hight from the north--looks like some of those descending this trail chose to butt-slide. After the Hight summit, easy snowshoeing to Carter Dome. From Carter Dome back to Zeta Pass on the Carter Dome Trail, several over/under blowdowns and a much narrower trail--we tried to break it out a bit more on the uphill side. |
