First hike since October 28 when I broke my fibula in two places and tore all ligaments in my left ankle on S. Hancock. I took an easy one and it was fantastic. Half the people had snowshoes, the other half in spikes. I don't understand why someone would prefer to trudge in loose snow going uphill when snowshoes offer maximum traction. The trail was beautiful with a fresh coat of snow. I was lucky that two skiers were going ahead of me and left a smooth track. Once at the summit, we had an undercast plus high clouds which made perfect conditions for great visibility, Mt Washington was visible beyond Osceola and N. Hancock. I had a nice chat at the summit with two hikers from Saratoga Spring, NY, bagging one more winter peak before returning home. |
