Wow, that was a cold one today and not much time taken for breaks. -2 degree start that only got colder at elevation but thankfully no wind. We put on the snowshoes just beyond the trailhead expecting drifting up top and also taking advantage of the televators. About a mile in, we hit the drifting and broke trail to Starr King. We continued breaking trail over to Waumbek which was a lot of Quasimodo hiking heading up to the mountain dipping under the bent boughs. There were some divots from bare booters as we descended, but the seven snowshoers on the trail was cleaning that up. Great hike today and I was glad to get back to the car and the balmy 6 degree temps which oddly felt warm. Glad to meet and hike some with Ally and Emma. |
