Comments
Comments: The start out from the Mount Kinsman trailhead is still a bit bony but snow depth increases steadily the further up the trail you walk by the time we hit the sugar shack. The trail was solid, pack powder snow with perhaps a couple inches of new fallen over that. By the time that we hit the junction with bald peak new snow depth was approaching 3 to 4 inches and increased steadily as we approached the top of the ridge. By the time we hit Kinsman Ridge Trail we were breaking 6 to 8 inches of dry powdery new snowfall. The journey across the ridge between North and South Kinsman was deep at points and heavily drifted. 6 to 8 inches was the norm with pockets and drifts that were knee to hip deep. Whereas travel speed had been about 1.5 mph on Mount Kinsman Trail. It slowed to 0.5 mile an hour across the ridge. We definitely punched the golden ticket. I can't emphasize this enough, but it's incredibly loose and unconsolidated up there. Snow shoes all the way!
