Friendly PSA: if it snows the day/night before, please wear snowshoes on the trail.
First to step on the trail today after the storm yesterday. Broke trail all the way up to the summit. The summit has some bare patches and a few boney areas of snow. If you head over to the viewpoint where you can see Flume and Liberty, the snow is rather deep.
Overall, about 3-4” of fresh powdery snow from yesterday’s storm. Up higher, the drifts were deep and in some spots close to 12”. With how windy it was today, our tracks were starting to be filled within minutes.
Two of us broke out the trail as best we could, but hikers behind us came through with only spikes and did some damage to the snowshoe tracks we put down. The snow is definitely not firm enough for spikes. Though with the storm coming Saturday night, this report will be out of date before you know it. |
