 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The shoulder of 25A is plowed such that you can fully get your car out of the lane of travel. There is room for at least 8 cars. Thank you!! |
|
 | Surface Conditions: |
Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts |
|
 | Recommended Equipment: |
Snowshoes |
|
 | Water Crossing Notes: |
Snow bridged, but see details in the narrative. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
There are three blowdowns. One is an easy stepover not far past the road crossing. The second is a gnarly conifer lengthwise at a really vertical trail section about 0.5 miles from the junction. My pup and I found a spruce trap trying to get around that. My pup definitely votes no for future spruce traps. The third one is a skinny stepover not far above the second one. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
My pup, as always, had a lot of fun! This is a great trail for dogs. There are tons of bunny and fox tracks for sniffing! |

 | Lost and Found: |
There is some sort of device hanging from the trailhead sign. IDK what it is for. |

We were the second ones on the trail after the 4ish inches of new snow. Snowshoes all day. The first person was a super nice snowshoer from VT. She snowshoed until she hit her turnaround time and headed back. We crossed paths with her and thanked her for breaking out a lot of the trail. We saw her turnaround point at about 1900’ and broke out the trail the rest of the way. The base is not solid. Down low there is more than a foot of snow, and up high there has to be 2’ with drifts in a lot of places. It is really beautiful (but tiring!) snowshoeing conditions!!
Echo and I went first to South Peak where we noted a lot of traffic on the Cross Rivendell Trail - it does not appear packed down but there were definitely more people on it than on our side!!
We did not break out North Peak (we were tired!)
On the way back down we saw 3 postholios about 1.5 miles from the trailhead. We tried to warn them about the above but they said they would be fine. The rest of the way back to the trailhead was tedious as they had left ankle deep postholes all over the place, with shin deep postholes about every 50 yards. It’s super sad because the nice woman from VT, and I, had really made an awesome snowshoe track!! Hike your own hike, I suppose. |
