Comments: A FINE day to check off February 9 for the two of us. BRING YOUR SNOWSHOES. Of note, skiers went to atleast the HOL on Cedar Brook. Also someone sent it on Arrow. Golden ticket for us behind 4 skinners. We passed them and laid fresh tracks through 4-8" of snow. Slightly deeper in some areas on ridge. Also of note, a very determined Marten ascended had laid fresh tracks up to North Hancock, so I felt as though I should also give him props for the summit. Despite the dozen of snowshoers out yesterday, the last one up North was a bare booter, so breaking that in conjunction with dealing with that was great. Great views, until it started snowing, and then it was great again in a different way. Great across ridge, soft, and LOTS of snow compared to the last few years. Went down South to find two people bare booting and beating up the trail really bad. Best part? One was carrying snowshoes on their pack. Incredible, absolutely incredible. You cannot fix stupid. They drove up from Rhode Island in a snowstorm but didn't think they'd need them. It had taken them four hours to reach halfway up South - and are the last ones out for the day. We left them about 1330. If they attempted to cross the ridge or go down North, those trails are going to be an absolute disaster tomorrow. You need snowshoes.
