Hiking Trail Conditions Report
Peaks
Peaks Copple Crown Mountain, NH
Trails
Trails: Snowmobile trails, Hanson Road, Woodman Hill Road, Copple Crown Trail
Date of Hike
Date of Hike: Sunday, February 9, 2025
Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: I parked at Moose Mountain Recreation because it's a plowed lot, unlike the Hanson Rd Kiosk. It adds about 1 mile each way to the hike but it's an easy and pleasant snowmobile trail. If you park here, they ask you to sign in at the sliding window behind the lodge. It's free (or donation) to hike, but they want you to sign in so they can account for remaining cars at the end of the day. Also, while it's not in-play now because it's not plowed, there is a huge new additional parking lot by the kiosk on Hanson Rd. It was added with the recent logging.
Surface Conditions
Surface Conditions: Snow - Unpacked Powder, Snow - Drifts
Recommended Equipment
Recommended Equipment: Snowshoes, Light Traction
Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: Almost entirely covered, I barely knew they were there.
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: No new blowdowns of note. Last week the snowmobile trail had numerous blowdowns, so this is a big improvement. There's one huge blowdown about .1 or .2 mi west of the junction with the East Peak spur, but it's been there a long time and has an easy workaround.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: Buttercup had a blast despite the snow being up to her belly/chest.
Bugs
Bugs: None!

Comments
Comments: I broke this out from the Copple Crown Trail up to the summit. I did not go to the East Peak. I'm only one person (and 4 paws), and while it was an out-and-back so I tread it twice, the snow was 2' deep and fluffy, so it's still very unconsolidated. I added "light traction" because you could use microspikes on the snowmobile trail and Woodman Hill Rd but snowshoes are still needed 100% on the Copple Crown Trail portion. Please don't posthole it- I worked WAY too hard for that!
