 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
The pull out for the ski trail has not been plowed since the last snow. There was a spot for one car that had been shoveled, which I gratefully took advantage of. I didn’t see any other parking possibilities until the Hancock lot at the hairpin. |

 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Some open water for drinks In the half mile of ski trail closest to the road. My pups did fine, all the ledges and steep areas that are hard for dogs in the summer are packed full of snow. They did better with their toenails than I did with my fancy snowshoes. |

This was a beautiful snowshoe hike. There is a nice trench all the way to the top of East peak. It has been butt-sledded in the steeps, but the luge was still soft enough to get traction with snowshoes. Some might prefer crampons. I didn’t bother switching. Spikes would not have worked because of how steep it is. Speaking of spikes, there’s not much use for them here. Even though the track is well established, it is not firm. You need snowshoes on the ski trail regardless.
The trail between east peak and main peak was soft and fluffy, with lots of drifting. The track bypasses the chimney.
Anyway, this is a great time to do the Osceolas if you’re worried about ice. There isn’t any. |
