I broke trail from beginning to summit. I know people had hiked the trail on Wednesday, but the snow on Thursday and the winds from today (Friday) covered all traces of tracks. However, the trenches were well-defined and trail markers on the trees were visible. At lower elevations, snow depth was 2” to 4” deep. Past the trail junction with Webster branch of the trail, snow depth increased to 4” to 6” and lots of snow on branches needed to be cleared. The last section close to the summit was very deep with snow drifts to about 1 ft deep. Views were excellent from the summit but the brutal winds forced me to leave the exposed summit after couple of minutes. Most of the trail is protected by trees so the impact of high winds was felt only on the exposed summit. Beautiful afternoon and gorgeous lighting at the summit at 4:30pm. |
