Parking/Access Road Notes
Parking/Access Road Notes: The trailhead parking is roughly plowed, and it was enough for about a half dozen cars to park. I often see people parked along the road; the signs clearly state that this is not allowed and I have seen some super pissed-off FB posts about ticketing and towing. It’s a great hike but like WoodsyJess said, definitely have a back-up plan because parking on the road would be really expensive and time consuming!

Water Crossing Notes
Water Crossing Notes: N/A
Trail Maintenance Notes
Trail Maintenance Notes: There are no obvious obstructing blowdowns, which is amazing, given how much wind we have had.
Dog-Related Notes
Dog-Related Notes: My pup Echo was naughty and chased some nice deer near the trailhead … so she was banished to a leashed walk intermittently peppered with being off leash but having to stay behind me. I don’t think she had as much fun as she usually does, but safety first!

Comments
Comments: Snowshoes door-to-door were absolutely perfect for these snowy trail conditions. The base is firm but not solid and we got new snow again the day before yesterday, so there was a track with loose powder! Echo and I were first tracks on the trail, today, which was nice. Someone barebooted after the Thursday snow, so the trail was chopped up from bottom to top. More than half the people we saw, today, were on snowshoes, so we all smoothed it as much as we could. One of the light traction people was carrying an ice axe (no snowshoes, and his pack was too small to be holding full crampons), which gave me a lot to think about. That’s not a combo that I have seen before, and this trail, while it has one little scramble, is not Lion’s Head winter route, that’s for sure! Hike your own hike, I suppose.
That one little scramble was super easy with all of the dnow, and in snowshoes. There was no wind, few clouds and bright sun. The tower is in great shape. This was a fabulous pick for the day before a big storm rolls in!
There were no tracks headed out via Weeks Brook Trail (I wouldn’t recommend that trail in any season, because there is a really ornery owl that lives by the little pond).
