 | Parking/Access Road Notes: |
I parked in the new (2023) parking lot off Reservation Rd. and did the 0.3 mi. road walk to North Mtn. Trail. This lot is plowed but is not sanded and was a bit icy today. Reservation Rd. is plowed and sanded by the town of Deerfield. |

 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
We (seasonal park staff) will be addressing blazing throughout the park this year. Still two large trees down on the steep N end of North Mtn. Trail; they've been there since last year. The snowmobile portion of North Mtn. Trail has a high leaner. It's not obstructing anything and will likely be dealt with when it falls. |

 | Comments: |
The initial part of North Mtn. Trail, Round Pond Rd., Chase Trail, and North Mtn. Bypass were all packed down well from busy snowmobile traffic. Lots of riders were out today.
North Mtn. Trail across the ridge had an old snowshoe track that was churned up by hikers either not wearing snowshoes or carrying them on their pack. I chose snowshoes round trip for the added grip on the crusty surface and to keep the soft snow underneath in good shape as a base for the next storm. Boulder Trail was much the same. Out of the hikers I saw today only one other was in 'shoes.
All that said, everything is about to get reset after the storm tonight and tomorrow. Once that winds down, snowshoes will definitely be needed. |
