First on trail today, started breaking trail in 4-6 inches about, it was hard to tell as even the parking lot was full of drifts where one minute you’re floating and the next your knee deep but once in the woods it was a little more consistent. The trail remained this way until treeline, no less than 4 inches of light fluffy snow but often times because of drifting we were hitting spots of 6-8 and occasional knee deep drifting. Once at treeline and to the tower it was again a bit of a mixed bag of conditions, there is definently a lot of drifting, but some has frozen over and we were able to walk right across while other drifts were not as stable and we would be breaking through knee to waist deep. On our way down much the trail had already filled in due to the light snow and high winds. We ran into two other hikers in snowshoes on our way down. Between the other group of two and us the trench down low was starting to take decent shape but was still getting filled back in somewhat. |
