Absolutely gorgeous sunny, mostly windless day. Was able to hike everything above treeline in just a base layer. Only regret is not bringing sunscreen. Wore snowshoes almost the whole time.
Ammo: Snowshoes. Broken out and in good shape. Pretty firm base although it gets soft and drifty once it starts to break treeline. Thanks to everyone who broke this out yesterday!
Crawford Path up to Washington: All crusty rime ice. Snowshoes still worked so I kept them on but spikes would probably be fine as well.
Gulfside out to Jefferson: Snowshoes. This was more mixed - still mostly crusty rime ice but also some areas of soft/drifting snow where snowshoes were helpful.
Jewell: I briefly switched to spikes above treeline when I found my snowshoes were slipping because of some areas where the surface was very hard and icy. Unfortunately this just led to postholing in the softer sections so I switched back to snowshoes. Neither option was great above treeline. Below treeline the snow is incredibly soft and drifty - I think you'd definitely want snowshoes. The soft snow made the descent pretty annoying in snowshoes and I can only imagine it would be much worse without them.
