Comments
Comments: Used light traction on the access road to the kiosk. Surface was firm enough at this time of morning. Snowshoes from kiosk to summit and back to vehicle. The Winslow Trail was well-packed and consolidated but surface was beginning to soften - snowshoes are definitely the smart way to travel. The Barlow Trail was not packed as well as the Winslow Trail. The Barlow Trail was a mess with massive post holing on the upper exposed sections, sometimes as much as 18"-24" deep - must have been a lot of fun for what I assume a very inexperienced (or couldn't care Less) person. Once in the woods the surface was less troublesome for the next 1/2 mile as the surface became firmer however with about six or seven tenths of a mile to go we encountered evidence of what looked like a crowd of bear booters sinking in on and off trail. They must have turned around at this point because the trail was once again unstable due to the holes. I just don't understand it, lack of common sense and no care for others that follow. It will take another snowstorm for this to be corrected.
