Comments
Comments: Tough conditions today. We were going for both Monroe and Washington
We had to break trail today after yesterday’s storm. Trail after gem pool is very steep and snowshoes very necessary. Trail was very hard to follow after a point maybe half mile before the hut. Above the hut we first attempted the regular hiking route to Monroe but chose to return because of drifted large snow slab facing approx north east direction causing sketchy conditions below it on high avalanche risk day. Returned back to hut switched into k10s and tried from the windward side of the mountain (off trail) and were able to summit.
Very windy conditions today. Probably 50 with 60mph gusts.
Weather was socked in till we reached Monroe. Clouds cleared while on Monroe
Getting down was bit tricky with the soft steep snow in the Ravine but not too bad.
Didn’t see any other people on the trail today.
