Comments
Comments: Broke trail almost the entire day. Up the Garfield trail wasn’t too bad besides some big drifts at higher elevations. Across the ridge to galehead is a different story. Probably a base depth of 6 inches to break through with bigger drifts and trees hanging over the trail all over the place. I managed to stay on trail most of the way over but circumvented some huge snowed over spruce trees in a few spots. Once reconnecting with the Gale River trail I was still breaking, but only about an inch on top of harder pack which made things move a bit quicker. Up and down galehead was a breeze. Up to South Twin wasn’t so bad until close to the top where again drifts became an obstacle. Across the north twin spur was about the same, deep drifts and route finding in areas. There were 2 other hikers out on the twins/galehead and gale river trail to help pack things down, but it started snowing on my way out which might’ve covered up some tracks.
