 | Water Crossing Notes: |
pretty narrow bridge. With the temperature being quite warm today, it was looking like it could collapse toward the end of the day. Hopefully the incoming low temperature will help. |
|
 | Trail Maintenance Notes: |
A few fallen trees on the flat part of Signal ridge. One duck under, One need to cross over just off the trail to name the memorable ones. A few more at fallen branches in the last 2 miles before summit but if memory serves, one can stay on trail and duct under. |
|
 | Dog-Related Notes: |
Saw paw prints on road walk. |
|
 | Bugs: |
Saw 2 little spider like bugs at 3500 elevation. Honest I was as displeased and surprised as it probably was. Why would spider be crawling on the packed snow? |

 | Comments: |
"Packed" snow is narrower then parallel set of snow shoes once the switchbacks began. any deviation off by half inch results in post holing or sliding off the packed snow. Started the hike at 8:30am, so with the warmmer temperature even at higher elevation, Packed snow equated to oh-so sticky snow. Had to knock snow shoes every 10 steps because of the large clumping. The first two brave trail breaker said they did not encounter sticky snow in their ascent, but the decent was an other story.
Counted 14 hikers today. If the above freezing temperature didn't soften the snow too much when the last group descent, the trail maybe be super well packed. |
